Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh cremated in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA - Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh,

who died in a hotel room on Oct 22

– a case that led to Malaysian rapper Namewee being investigated for murder – was cremated after the remains of her body were released by Kuala Lumpur Hospital on Nov 16.

Mr Royston Tan, the lawyer representing Ms Hsieh’s family, confirmed that the remains were sent for cremation in Shah Alam after being released from the hospital, 25 days after her sudden death.

Mr Tan, appointed by the family, was present at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary after police released her body.

Mr Tan and several funeral service personnel arrived at 8.30am, during which two mortuary makeup artists were seen entering the facility. They spent about an hour inside before leaving.

The vehicle carrying Ms Hsieh’s remains headed to Shah Alam after leaving Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Mr Tan also appealed for privacy on behalf of the family as they proceed with Ms Hsieh’s funeral arrangements.

Her ashes are likely to be sent to Taiwan this week.

Ms Hsieh, 31, also known as the “Nurse Goddess”, was found unconscious in a bathtub at a hotel on Oct 22.

She had been with Wee, 42, who told police they were discussing a video project.

Initially classified as sudden death, Ms Hsieh’s case was later reclassified as murder.

Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was later detained as part of the murder investigation, after being charged with two drug-related offences in a magistrate’s court.
